Lemongrass is a popular spice plant used in cuisine and many other useful uses such as medicinal herbs, essential oil extraction, etc. Lemongrass has many types, each with its own characteristics and different effects. In Vietnam, there are about 15 lemongrass types, but the two most popular are Lemon Lemongrass and Java Lemongrass.
Specific 2 types of lemongrass plants in Vietnam:
1. Lemon Lemongrass also known as Lemongrass, is popularly grown in Vietnam. Its scientific name is Cymbopogon flexuosus, which is originally from India, Myanmar and Thailand. Lemongrass is a perennial shrub with a height of 1m – 1.5m. Leaves are narrow and long, with rough margins, tightly woven sheaths and hairless.
2. Java Lemongrass, also known as Red Lemongrass, the scientific name is Cymbopogon winterianus. Java lemongrass grows into a bush, the stem can be up to 2m high, the leaves are elongated. Lemongrass root is purple-pink or purple-red.

It also contains many important minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, copper, zinc and iron. In addition, lemongrass also contains antioxidants, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds such as luteolin, glycosides, quercetin, kaempferol, elemicin, catechol, chlorogenic acid, and caffeic acid. In particular, the composition of lemongrass also contains citral, a chemical compound that has a lemon flavor and has many great uses.
